Company History

Originally founded in the 1940's by Harry Cruden to repair war damaged houses initially across Scotland and then progressively across the UK. Under a license from Swedish company 'Skarne' Cruden worked in the volume house building sector employing an innovative – off site manufactured concrete house – a fore runner of today's modern methods of construction.

In 1966 Cruden Northwest was founded, undertaking numerous projects around the region and in 1981 Cruden Construction was purchased by Ted Brian and became part of the successful construction group Headcrown Group Plc.

Throughout our 45 year history we have completed a wide array of projects for both public and private sector clients. Recent construction projects include 5 Extracare Retirement Villages in Crewe, Haydock, Atherton, St Helens and Wallasey; education projects for Manchester City Council, Bury MBC, Harper Adams University and Salford City Council; 338 new houses in the Castlefields, Runcorn regeneration area and the first new build council homes in both Manchester and Salford for the respective councils.

Currently extensive partnering and framework arrangements are being operated across the region with housing associations, local authorities and universities. As the company moves forward we are increasing our drive towards sustainable construction and low carbon emmisions working with academia to link research and operational knowledge to create better buildings in which to live and work.
