Cruden Construction has been delighted to take part in the Learning Initiative for Employment (LIFE II) in partnership with Warrington Borough Councils 'Way Forward Team'.

The LIFE II programme's objective is to raise awareness of the new specialist diplomas for a range of industries which will be available for study for year 10 and 11 pupils in Warrington from September 2008.

Cruden were approached to take part in a series of one day events to raise awareness of the Construction Industry. Over the course of 4 weeks, Year 9 pupils from Great Sankey, St Greg's, Penketh and William Beaumont High Schools all attended site visits, activities and presentations at Cruden's head office in Grappenhall Warrington.

The group had the opportunity to meet with some of Cruden's Senior Managers who each gave a 20 minute presentation of their area of expertise, which included

- Buying
- Marketing
- Estimating
- Quantity Surveying
- Customer Care
- Environment
- Health and Safety

When asked 'Did the Life II experience change anyone's opinion of the construction industry?' one year learner said "I never realized how much of a team player you had to be – I just thought it was doing your own job – but now I realise how much everyone has to work with each other"

Geraldine Mooney of Warrington Borough Council commented "I would like to say on behalf of the Way Forward Team, how grateful we are to Cruden for supporting the young learners on this project – in was an invaluable experience and will really help shape young choices in the future"
