The team at Brookside Retirement Village site in Ormskirk welcomed four new team members in July 2011 from local Knowsley Community College. Ian, Keiran, Carl and Gareth spend two interesting weeks learning about what goes on in a live construction environment and which trade could be right for them.
The four eager students who all study towards their construction diploma at Knowsley Community College were invited to attend the live site to give them a real insight into a career in the construction industry and the many disciplines of trade and professions available to them.
Under the supervision of Tom Armstrong, Trainee Site Agent, the group spend a numbers of days with a range of tradesman and professionals including; Joiners, Bricklayers, Plumbers, Boarders, Plasterers and Window fitters. They spent a day each shadowing the Gatesman and Store Supervisor to understand the volume and frequency of deliveries on to the busy site.
They each spent a day with Tom shadowing his role as Trainee Site Agent. Tom is also currently studying towards his Foundation Degree in Construction through Cruden's dedicated Escalate programme and commented "I think the lads got a lot out of seeing a how a busy site operates, how each role plays an important part in operating safely and effectively and that teamwork is fundamental to a successful building project"
Brookside Retirement Village is a £14m design and build project for long standing client Arena Housing Association. The building is currently the biggest timber frame construction in Europe for 2011 and due for completion in February 2011.
Through Cruden Group's commitment to local labour and community engagement the Brookside team will continue supporting initiatives such as these for the duration of the project.
