Two hundred children have benefited from the construction of this completely new school and nursery complex, which replaces two 1950's primary schools, Brookside and Sutton Way. The former gives its name to the new school, the latter the location at Great Sutton, Ellesmere Port.

The single storey structure provides internal accommodation comprising seven classrooms, communal teaching areas, assembly hall, kitchens, dining rooms, cloakrooms, toilets, staff room and administration offices. Externally new tarmac playgrounds and car parks. sensitively separated by soft and hard landscaping treatments complete the new school.

Great care was taken at all times to ensure that a safe environment was maintained for the staff, children, parents and others who continued to use Sutton Way Primary school throughout the construction phase. Close liaison with adjoining property owners helped to minimise disruption to the local community.

Traditional construction methods were employed featuring Cattybrook Cheddar smooth red facing bricks and beige powder coated aluminium windows to elevations supporting a timber trussed insulated warm roof completed with grey Redland regent flat concrete tiles, terracotta ridge and GRP feature ventilation turret. Internally the most striking features are the exposed feature trusses and globe lighting to the schools corridor and the four 12m long Glulam beams and T & G boarded ceilings in the Assembly Hall. Elsewhere, other finishes reflect Cruden's renowned workmanship.

Core services were installed by Cruden Construction's associate company Cruden Mechanical Services Limited.

Following occupation of the new school building, Cruden Construction completed the project by successfully managing the sensitive demolition of the former Sutton Way Primary School, and remodelling the landscape to blend in perfectly with the new environment.
