The £4.2m Elkin Court for Housing 21, named after a much respected GP, is an extra care housing development providing care/support services to older people.

Providing 40 self-contained apartments, Elkin Court aims to improve the quality of life and offer more choice and independent to the residents by providing accessible rented accommodation suitable for people with a range of disabilities. The services at the scheme will also be extended to the surrounding 32 bungalows, which are owned by Trafford Housing Trust.

Partington is a very close community which has a number of valuable community groups who have worked closely with Housing 21 and Trafford Council on many aspects of this development, including the design publicity and legal agreements. This group includes: Trafford Housing Trust; Positive Partington; Big Life; Age Concern and Harvest Housing Association.

The relationship with the local community groups will continue with Positive Partington. Big Life and Engage invited to take advantage of the communal facilities and meet at the scheme. There is also the opportunity for engage to continue holding such activities as luncheon clubs, drama and craft workshops, and for them to introduce the over 50's of Trafford to this unique resource.

The scheme started on site in January 2007 and Practical Completion was in March 2008, the first residents moved into the building in June 2008. The project was funded jointly between Housing 21, The Housing Corporation and Trafford Council.

The communal facilities in Elkin Court are available to both residents and the local community, these facilities include; a restaurant, shop, day centre, health care suite, hair and beauty salon and guest room.

Design and Facilities
Elkin Court is a modern community in Trafford, which offers older people with personal care needs the chance to live as independently as possible in dignity, safety and comfort.

Tenants live independently in specially adapted apartments with trained staff on hand 24 hours a day to meet any personal care needs.

The Court has 40 self contained apartments comprising 24 one bedroom and 16 two bedroom apartments which are available to rent with assured tenancies.

Each apartment is equipped with an en-suite bathroom with walk in showers, a fully fitted kitchen including fridge/freezer, oven and hob, a door entry system with intercom, emergency pull cords in all rooms and a wheel chair access throughout. High levels of insulation offer complete warmth and comfort.

The design is based on progressive privacy, so access to the apartments is secured for tenants. The interior furnishings reflect the needs of older people and or disabled people, particularly in the use of colour to assist those with visual or orientation issues and level access throughout.
