This scheme was our first scheme for Moorlands Housing and comprised the £2.8m redevelopment of the site with a mixture of family housing and starter units. The new houses and apartments were designed to meet the Housing Corporation's Housing Quality Indicators, Design Quality Indicators, Secured by Design and Code for Sustainable Homes Code level 3.

Collaborative working can be demonstrated through a team based approach. The team communicated constantly through electronic information sharing, regular meetings and daily contact, keeping the client fully informed at all times. Monthly meetings were attended by the client and the client's Clerk of Works, all the design team members and when required, specialist subcontractors.

After winning the contract and before the scheme commenced on site, it became evident that the planning approval was granted on an earlier scheme design proposal. Working in very close association with the client and the architect, we redesigned those elements that needed to be altered to comply with the approved planning drawings, ensuring that the requirements could still achieve Code 3 and remain within the client's budget.

We adopted a collaborative approach with the Code Assessors, SAP Assessor, Timber Frame specialist and Mechanical Subcontractor to test various design ideas and determine the optimum solution that delivered best value in design and cost. This involved daily dialogue, regular meetings and exchanges of ideas.

A further example during construction was that ground conditions were found to be significantly different and this required collaboration with the structural engineers to mitigate the impact.
