Situated just off Birkenhead's Hamilton Square, 'Market Wells' was the result of a partnership between Cruden Construction, Liverpool Housing Trust, The Hamilton Quarter Partnership, Wirral MBC, Forum Housing Association and the Wirral Primary Care NHS Trust.
It provides a mix of accommodation from offices and commercial units to a General Medical Practitioners surgery and a forty bed-sit 'Foyer' facility.
Funding was provided by each of the participant partners including Cruden together with grant monies from the Single Regeneration Budget.
Cruden Construction was responsible for co-ordinating the project development including development appraisal, finance structure, risk management, marketing, design, planning and construction. Extensive consultation was undertaken with the partner organisations and local stakeholders.
The operational site was typical of town centre sites, featuring two distinct levels and fronting two Birkenhead town centre roads - Price Street being a main arterial route.
Construction comprised a combination of reinforced concrete strip and pad foundations and a reinforced concrete raft. The superstructure utilised a steel frame with pre-cast floors and stairs with a variety of exterior finishes such as curtain walling, render, stone and zinc cladding with a mixture of softwood and powder coated aluminium windows, topped by a 'Sarni' single ply deck membrane roof.
A successful development, Market Wells demonstrated the ability of Cruden Construction to co-ordinate the wide and varied needs of a number of client bodies and produce a tasteful, sustainable development.
